Russell Brakefield & Julie Carr -- "Field Recordings" and "Someone Shot My Book"

Russell Brakefield and Julie Carr will speak about and sign their new books, Field Recordings and Someone Shot My Book, on Tuesday, April 24th at 7:30pm.

About Field Recordings:
Firmly rooted in the dramatic landscapes and histories of Michigan, Field Recordings uses American folk music as a lens to investigate themes of personal origin, family, art, and masculinity. The speakers of these poems navigate Michigan's folklore and folkways while exploring more personal connections to those landscapes and examining the timeless questions that occupy those songs and stories.

About Someone Shot My Book:
Approaching the practices of reading and writing from a feminist perspective, Someone Shot My Book asks vital ethical questions about the role of poetry — and of art in general — in a violent culture. She addresses the art of listening, the body and the avant-garde, gun violence, police brutality, reading and protest, and feminist responses to war in essays that are lucid, inventive, and informed by a life lived with poetry.

Vouchers to attend are $5 and are good for $5 off an author's featured book or a purchase the day of the event. Vouchers can be purchased in advance at the store, over the phone, or at the door. Readers Guild Members can reserve seats for any in-store event.
